Day 4: Mrs Claus has nothin' on my Mom

My Mother gets what Christmas is all about! She wakes with her grandkids to open stockings, makes delicious fruitcake, and always manages to find the perfect gifts. She’s all about the little details, buying eggnog and Christmas crackers so we can wear silly crowns…she hums or sings Christmas carols most of the time.
Each year she makes sure another ornament graces my tree (of no two identical ornaments). I have two she and my dad used as labels for gifts the year before he passed away, our names in gold ink (in his scrawl). My mom has continued this long standing tradition…gracing the branches with penguins from Antartica, Huichal eggs from Mexico, and a koala bear from Australia.
When people talk about the stress of Christmas, I sometimes wonder if I missed some memo…I love to decorate, and give gifts and cook for others, all the while listening to Michael Buble crooning some Christmas carols…as others start to fret as the RSVP’s come in for Christmas dinner, I get more excited the more people are coming. It is truly my favorite time of the year, and I think that has (a lot) to do with the lady that taught me HOW to do Christmas…thanks Mom!
